Do you always wear steel-toed shoes around horses?

with 24 comments

My instructor gets mad if I’m not wearing my riding boots around horses, they aren’t even steel toed! I love to just go around in my moccasins, I am really careful not to get stepped on. I think it is just about the same amount of protection anyway. I ride in my moccasins too but only bareback. I realize you need the heel if there are stirrups. But this ticks her off WAY too much. What do you think? Is it that important?

Ive been stepped on MANY times by my 16hh quarter horse cross and it didn’t even really hurt. And if it ever does I just get a bruise. No broken bones…
No they arent soft sole, they have a thin one on there. Here is a pick of the moccasins I wear:

Or it least it looks exactly like that.
NickiD: hahaha Im in high school (17) and I wear mine everywhere all the time no matter what too! Thats why I wear them to the barn even. The sole is almost worn a hole in it… haha. It makes me feel a connection to my native american background, I really look up to native americans. Thats so funny!
